Natural and Frugal Soap Nut Laundry Detergent

I’m sure you have figured out by now that I like to avoid toxins whenever possible. One of the ways I do this is with my laundry soap. I used to make it myself, but then I discovered soap soap nuts!

They are completely natural and work wonderfully – even on my hard working husbands filthy clothes. I’m telling you, if they can get those clothe clean, they can get just about anything clean!

I love how fresh and clean they smell! No harsh chemicals, no artificial scents, just the pure smell of  clean, clothes. Ahh…  And they are so much less expensive! The laundry bill for our family of five equals out to be less than 50 cents per month!!  How awesome is that!? (And my husband is 6 feet, 10 1/2 inches tall…. Two pairs of his jeans take up the whole washing machine, so its especially economical for us. Also, those jeans weigh a ton when they are wet! Its ridiculous!)

To use them you put three or four in a muslin bag and toss it in the bottom of your washer. My six year old helps with the laundry and she loves to do this part. Just keep it in there, using it until the nuts become soft, usually about four large loads. Then, throw the nuts away and replace. Easy. Cheap. Clean. Love it.
